What is it about?

The paper investigates how the parliament in the United Kingdom, and review bodies commissioned by the country's government, have responded to the global financial crisis. It also comments on legislative instruments that the European Union has published in the wake of the crisis, which the United Kingdom is expected to implement.

Why is it important?

Having demonstrated to readers the effect that the global financial crisis has had on some of the country's financial institutions, the article proceeds to report and analyse the response from the legislators. The paper was written early in 2013, and published in the JFC the following year. It should provide an impression of how the crisis is being addressed, as seen by the author at that point in time.

Perspectives

This paper was carefully planned, researched and written over several weeks, in order to provide a review of the legislative and regulatory response to the crisis at a fairly early stage after its completion. Other later items published by the author provide fuller treatment, especially of the European Union legislation. My perspective is gradually changing, as the legislation becomes more complete and the global financial crisis goes further into the past - but this is fairly imperceptible.
