This paper examines experience of succession between father and daughter in four family businesses in China in an attempt to explore factors impeding and facilitating the process.

Why is it important?

Family businesses is the dominant form among private firms in China, and many founders are approaching retirement age. Many daughters in business families will be considered as a successor. Understanding the obstacles in father-daughter succession is important.

Perspectives

A large scale study is needed to generalize the findings in this case study.
