Artefact-driven narrative literature review (ART-NLR): supporting evidence synthesis for design science research

What is it about?

Many research projects aim to design practical solutions such as tools, models, or digital systems. However, traditional literature review methods are often too rigid for design-oriented research that evolves through multiple stages. This paper introduces the Artifact-Driven Narrative Literature Review (ART-NLR), a structured but flexible approach that helps researchers review existing studies at key stages of Design Science Research. ART-NLR supports evidence-informed decisions when defining problems, designing artefacts, and planning their evaluation.
