What is it about?

The Meaning of the Child Interview is a new procedure that assesses parent-child relationships via a semi structured interview with the parent. It is one of the few procedures that differentiates between different kinds of at risk relationships in ways that can help clinicians intervene in them more sensitively and effectively. This paper introduces the MotC and deals with its validation study.

Why is it important?

The MotC was developed in work with struggling and at risk families and with the needs and requirements of clinicians working in this field in mind. Its initial validation is a step forward in offering practitioners with an illuminative and fit for purpose tool with the potential to contribute to the development of practice in this field.
