What is it about?

This paper describes an initial investigation into the potential to expand the use of data in a Building Information Model (BIM) from the construction and operation phase to property professionals. Property professionals, amongst other services, manage and value real estate. Many property professionals have little or no understanding of BIM or the data therein. This research explored whether there was any information that would be useful to property professionals

Why is it important?

As we become more digitised and the application of big data in society grows, the real estate sector needs to take opportunities, where they exist, to improve the quality of the professional services offered. There may opportunities to expand the scope of the services offered too. This paper found some initial areas where BIM data could be useful to property professionals

Perspectives

It's both interesting and exiting to be able to explore innovative ideas and technologies; here the extension of technology increasingly used in construction. I have no doubt the use of BIM data by property professionals will increase and expand over time.
