What is it about?

This study explores how teacher education programs in Thailand prepare future teachers to address issues of inequality, diversity, and inclusion in their classrooms. It examines whether social justice principles, such as fairness, equity, and inclusivity, are effectively integrated into teacher training. The findings reveal a gap between policies promoting social justice and the practical training provided to teachers. Many educators lack the tools and support to apply these principles in real-life teaching situations, particularly when supporting marginalized groups like ethnic minorities and LGBTQ+ students. The study highlights the need to improve teacher education by revising curricula to include practical strategies for promoting equity, offering more training for teacher educators, and expanding opportunities for future teachers to gain hands-on experience in inclusive teaching. These changes would help create classrooms that are fair and supportive for all students, regardless of their background. This research also provides actionable recommendations for policymakers and educators, contributing to Thailand’s efforts to achieve inclusive education and align with international goals for equity and inclusion. The insights from this study can serve as a guide for other countries facing similar challenges in integrating social justice into education systems.
