What is it about?

General Practitioners play important roles in safeguarding care home residents from abuse. However, we know little about their experiences of this role. This research found that GPs seldom see clear signs of abuse and neglect. Instead they often see signs which are unclear and experience uncertainty about the significance of these. They take a range of actions in response to the things they see when working in care homes. They also experience difficulties in deciding whether the signs they have seen should be reported and in managing their working relationships with care home staff while not colluding when there are concerns about possible abuse and neglect.
