What is it about?
South Africa has experienced increasing citrus export competitiveness since the mid-1990s. It is currently the second most competitive citrus exporter in the world after Spain. The country's export competitiveness in citrus was driven by the real exchange rate, the citrus export price and real per capita GDP growth rate. In particular, real exchange rate depreciation and increasing citrus export prices have led to increasing citrus export competitiveness seen since the mid-1990s.
