What is it about?
Credit is necessary for investment in the farm business. However, accessibility and getting the demanded loan amount is challenging among farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa. Therefore, this study investigated the determinants of farmers' access to credit and the amount borrowed. Data was gathered from 477 irrigated rice farmers in the Upper East region of Ghana. The analysis revealed that farmers' gender, age, years of farming, total farm size, rice farm size, contract farming and off-farm employment affect their credit accessibility, whiles gender, age, years of farming, rice farm size, contract farming and the number of extension contact explains the amount borrowed. Further, extension service facilitates the amount borrowed.
