What is it about?

Understanding the developmental pathways that can influence individuals to consistently choose peace is important to promote a stable culture of peace across several levels of observation. Taking into account previous literature on the role of parenting styles in shaping the children’s and future adults’ prosocial behaviors and attitudes, the present work investigates the relationship between parenting styles of parents and peace attitudes of their adolescent and adult children. Three-hundred-fifty-eight adolescent and adult subjects completed the Peace Attitude Questionnaire and the Parenting Style Questionnaire. Our results show that authoritative parents tend to raise children with higher peace attitudes and open the way to further study what parental characteristics may be responsible for the development of peace attitudes in individuals.
