What is it about?

This paper uses the gang violence reduction strategy known as the Group Violence Intervention as a case study to highlight how a law enforcement strategy became a key pillar of public safety over the years even amidst a movement to reduce the racial inequities and systemic biases in the criminal justice system. The paper discusses a range of questions that remains to be answered about the strategy and raises points that indicate the field of gang research has far to go in determining what works in gang prevention and intervention.
