What is it about?

The high travelling costs for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system training courses and the popularity of mobile devices has increased the tendency towards m-learning offerings. ERP users can be trained by using an m-learning approach which is aimed at users who are on the go as well as those who do not have direct access to desktop PCs in their work environment. Several studies propose the use of m-learning systems. However research related to the factors which impact on m-learning projects and the evaluation of m-learning systems for ERP system training is limited. In this paper a literature review of several studies relating to success factors for m-learning and e-learning are analysed and a framework of success factors for m-learning of ERP systems is proposed. The paper also reports on two field studies where the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to evaluate the acceptance, usefulness and perceived ease of use of two systems, the OpenSAP e-learning application and the SAP Learn Now m-learning application. The results confirmed several of the theoretical elements identified in the framework and the m-learning system was rated positively for perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU). Although the field studies only had a small number of participants, a deeper understanding of these factors was obtained and this can contribute towards the improved design of an ERP m-learning system, which in turn can lead to an improvement in ERP training and education programmes and ultimately ERP project success.
