What is it about?

This paper gives an overview of the Jisc and Higher Education Standards Agency (HESA) project, which brought together cross-institutional library teams in order to produce proof of concept data-visualised dashboards using library analytics data that could be made available to others via the Heidi Plus service. The paper provides insight into the Library Data Labs project and discusses a number of implications from the outcomes of the project.

Why is it important?

This work builds on the research from the University of Huddersfield Library Impact Data Project (LIDP) and the work of the Jisc Library Analytics and Metrics Project (LAMP). At the time the LAMP project was not scalable. However, new data sources and visualisation software, such as Tableau, has allowed further work to be carried out in the area of library analytics and this paper examines this work.

Perspectives

Eight years on from the initial LIDP work, it was been extremely satisfying to be able to scale the work up to a national scale. It shows that, despite the LAMP project never achieving all of its aims, we were on the right track.
