What is it about?
Although the pandemic has touched every country in the world, some nations have dealt with COVID-19 more effectively than others. We investigate whether prevailing cultural traits, such as individualism, can explain this divergence in outcomes. We find that the role played by culture is more complex than it first appears, and that cultural attitudes and state action interact to determine citizen's compliance with anti-pandemic policies.
