What is it about?
What influences patients when making decisions about the drugs they buy? This research looks at this process from a consumers' perspective by exploring the influence of participative decision-making, perceived risk and price consciousness on the decision of choosing between branded and non-branded drugs.

Why is it important?
This is the first study on the topic conducted in Portugal after new legislation came out. Also, this research takes a consumer perspective approach and looks for underlying factors that might enlighten patients' (consumers') decisions.
Perspectives
We tried to look for the "why" patients behave in this or that way, instead of just describe their behaviors. Also, we looked to the subject of branded and non-branded drugs in a consumers' perspective rather than a patient perspective. We hope this research might help several stakeholders. Consumers might benefit from understanding their own behaviors; public institutions may better define public policies and pharma companies better adapt to the needs of patients and the society as a whole.
