What is it about?

Many people in prison have chronic health conditions like high blood pressure but do not always take their medications regularly. This can lead to serious health problems over time. In this study, we placed educational posters about medication use in key areas of a women’s prison in Indonesia. We then tracked how well 39 women with hypertension followed their medication routines before, during, and after the posters were displayed. Over the 30 days, we found that more women started taking their medication regularly. The posters seemed to help them understand why it was important to stick to their treatment. This simple and low-cost method could help improve health in other prisons or places where access to health education is limited.
