What is it about?
People in prison often have mental health problems, but in Brazil, there isn’t much research on this — even though most of them will eventually return to society. We talked to 242 men in prison to understand how their experiences, education, and support from others relate to their mental health. We found that when people feel safer and more respected in prison and when they feel supported by family or friends, they tend to have fewer problems like sadness, anxiety, or stress.
