What is it about?

The T-Visa presents nonimmigrant victims of human trafficking within the United States a pathway to legal residency. However, acquiring a T-Visa usually requires aiding the investigation and prosecution of the victim's trafficker. This may prove exceedingly difficult for victims with severe trauma. To this end a "trauma exception" has been created for trafficking victims. This exception, though, is not widely understood or used. This article sheds light on the types of trauma trafficking victims are likely have, provides an understanding of the trauma exception, and explains how it can be more widely used for victims of human trafficking.
