Why is it important?
This paper studies a period of unprecedent economic crisis and provides insights in regards to the ways it has affected gender inequality in the labour market. It does so by constructing a composite index and utilising microdata. What we show is that we are witnessing a race to the bottom, with gender gaps closing due to a more rapid worsening of employment conditions for men compared to women.
