What is it about?
We measure unemployment in the EU during the Great Recession taking into account not only the incidence of the phenomenon but also its duration profile. We find remarkable differences in unemployment patterns in time among European countries after ncorporating spells’ duration in measuring unemployment.

This paper claims that duration profiles should be consistently integrated into unemployment measures to adequately monitor the evolution and nature of unemployment across countries, especially during periods of great rekevance sch as the Great Recession.
