What is it about?
The purpose of this paper is to present a case study that showcases the application of lean six sigma methodology in improving the Mining Transportation Overall Vehicle Effectiveness (MTOVE). The study follows the DMAIC (define-measure-analyze-improve-control) approach to systematically identify underlying causes and develop solutions. Various lean six sigma tools, such as ANOVA, 2 sample T-test, one sample T-test, cause-effect analysis, and time study, have been utilized. The case study resulted in a 35% increase in MTOVE, a 17% improvement in productivity, and a 9% enhancement in truck utilization. Statistical tests confirmed the significance of reducing the mean and variation in the process. The key findings of this study demonstrate that implementing lean six sigma can effectively enhance the overall efficiency of coal mining transportation operations.
