What is it about?

Detection of Traversable region and obstacles around an outdoor mobile robot by using range data from a rotating 3D laser scanner.

Why is it important?

Rotating laser scanners are commonly used with outdoor mobile robots. Detection of traversable region around the robot will allow the robot to plan its path towards the goal by avoiding obstacles.

Perspectives

Obstacle detection and traversability are obtained by using the structured nature in which the rotating laser scanners scan the environment. Only the geometry in which the data is obtained is used to develop perception with out needing data from any other sensors.
