What is it about?

Empowering of women is one of the main agendas of 2019 of United Nations for Asian countries where women are not given equal rights and due to which suffer socially and economically from various problems. By identifying the attitudes of general population and their causes for their attitudes can help in betterment of women empowerment process. Empowerment is a process, and it does not occur automatically. This has necessitated several studies to have different findings about the evidence for women empowerment. This is because empowerment is a continuous and constantly evolving process. This necessitates investigation of the factors which determine women empowerment in specific areas. The current aim is to develop an instrument to measure attitudes regarding women’s empowerment, defined as their ability to practice their rights, freedom and attain resources within a framework of gender inequality. The ATWES can be used as a measuring tool to assess the attitude of general population towards women empowerment to devise further interventions to hamper women empowerment in countries and societies where it is required.
