What is it about?
Traditionally the terms affordable housing, quality and preferences have been seen in isolation or in contradiction with each other. This paper aims to the goal of not just providing houses to satisfy basic needs, but a house that could meet housing user's expectations, regarding quality, preferences and at an affordable price.

Why is it important?
A simulation model is used considering quality and preferences for housing users and incomes for developers, identifying the optimal number of housing units per type that could provide developers to obtain reasonable profits. A win-win situation is thus generated in which housing users can obtain better houses and urban environments and developers can recover their investments.
Perspectives
The original contribution of this work is the development of a method to include housing preferences in a conceptual simulation model by using quality and demand curves.
