What is it about?

The paper contributes to the discussion on patient safety incidents reporting in enhancing quality of care, especially in low-middle-income countries like Ghana. The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Health has developed National Healthcare Quality Strategy that seek to ensure improved quality of care in healthcare institutions. Patient safety incidents reporting among professionals is a key step towards achieving this policy objective. Highlights of the paper are: 1.The study suggests that the policy makers at the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service need to organise a national patient safety forum to discuss a comprehensive national strategy to reduce patient harm and to improve patient safety in all hospitals in Ghana. 2.The study suggests the need to ensure capacity building and human resource development to improve patient safety in healthcare institutions.
