What is it about?
Provisions for the minimisation of human error is essential through governance structures such as recruitment, human resource allocation and education/training. As predictors of safety attitudes/behaviours, employees’ personality traits have been examined in relation to human error and safety education. Our aim was to identify relevant research activity globally, with a special focus on healthcare, as to identify its related activity and progress. Only two studies were identified in the healthcare sector. The lack of relevant research within healthcare led us to support recommendations for further research within healthcare and comparisons with other complex and highly regulated industries. We support that safety will be enhanced through healthcare governance, by personality-based recruitment, human resource allocation and education/training. Our study is comprehensive and extended as it is anticipated to be used as baseline study within healthcare.
