Pet-related barriers to healthcare and pet attachment in patients presenting to the emergency department

What is it about?

Owning and being attached to our pets can have many benefits but it can also cause difficulties when seeking medical care in emergency situations. We show that 51% of pet owners presenting to the emergency department, regardless of demographics, have experienced or anticipated limitations accessing healthcare because they have a pet.
