What is it about?

Our review of the policing literature shows that the use of social media can lead to positive and negative outcomes. We find that police services are increasingly using centralised approaches to social media which suggests that public engagement is seen as a distinct and discrete corporate function, rather than a core duty of the public servant. Finally, we highlight the need for guidelines and training for staff in their use of social media.
