What is it about?
We surveyed the experience of Carnival among participants in Brazil using the Event Experience Scale. This revealed significant differences in experience dimensions (cognitive, conative, emotional, novelty) between participants in different cities and social groups. Being a member of a Carnival group (bloco) was particularly important. The data also showed a significant post-Covid boost in participation and enjoyment.

Why is it important?
This is the first quantitative study of the experience of Carnival in Brazil, and one of the first to directly compare experiences between locations.
Perspectives
This is an important out put of the ATLAS Event Experiences Project, made possible with the support of many colleagues in Brazil. An important example of the value of longitudinal collaborative research.
