What is it about?

This study investigates the influence of entrepreneurship policies and gender equality on women's entrepreneurial engagement. It reveals that in countries emphasizing entrepreneurship and upholding formal gender equality, women's inclination towards self-employment is less pronounced than men's. Conversely, in countries with strong entrepreneurship policies and robust informal gender equality, women are more likely to engage in entrepreneurship than men. These findings, derived from a multi-level analysis of data from 66 countries, underscore the complex interplay between policy, gender norms, and entrepreneurial activity, advocating for policies that recognize these nuances to foster a more inclusive entrepreneurial landscape.
