What is it about?
Housing is one of the most basic human rights, for safety, privacy, health and dignity. Yet, rapid urbanisation, poverty, increasing hazard risk has meant that over 40% of world's population live in unsafe, unhygienic and inadequate housing. Solomon Islands, a Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific region, is a case in point, as it is at the forefront of climate change and rapid urbanisation. The Shelter Guide was developed to provide technical guide for the urban informal settlers, whose needs for adequate and disaster resilient housing are often overlooked by the formal housing sector.
