This paper proposes that the concept of resilience and the associated concept of adaptive capacity can be used as a means of planning for the greater protection of cultural heritage before and after a disaster.

This article is significant because it negins to make the link between resilience, adaptive capacity and he need to look at the protection of cultural built heriateg in the wake of disasters. This is crucial because once lost or destroyed it is gone for ever and cannot be rebuilt or returned.

This is a simple paper and olny really the beginning of our work while is does highlight the important need it is very muc ha conceptual paper and the real work begins in operationalising this concept.
