The role of governance on health spending and health outcome

Findings indicate that public health spending has no significant effect on health outcome except when interacted with governance quality. Specifically, the interaction of government health spending with governance effectiveness as well as control of corruption improved health by inducing a fall in maternal deaths while that for rule of law raised maternal mortality, Similarly, the interaction of public health spending and regulatory quality improved life expectancy in years. However, the interaction of political stability with public health spending induced poor health for maternal, infant health and a fall in life expectancy. Direct effects of the quality of governance on health outcome was also observed with the indicator for political stability inducing a rise in maternal mortality on one hand and the control of corruption prompting a fall on the other hand.
