What is it about?

Several studies on crises are focused on the organizational level (Simola, 2005), while less attention is paid to the individual experience of crisis in the workplace and how these experiences relate to their family life. We tested a model of the impact of crisis severity, self-efficacy and humor on work-family conflict. We show that high levels of perceived crisis severity are related to increased WFC. Also, increased levels of crisis self-efficacy, rather than alleviating the work-family conflict, have worsened it, especially for behavior-based WFC. Finally, humorous is linked with reduced adverse effects of crisis severity on strain and time-based work-family conflicts.
