What is it about?

This study examines the conditions under which abusive supervisors experience guilt. We showed that supervisors are more likely to experience guilt for being hostile to their subordinates when their own supervisors are not abusive and when they are agreeable. We further showed that the supervisor's experience guilt motivates them to offer help to their followers. This study shows that abusive supervisors need to pay an emotional cost (in terms of guilt) for enacted abusive supervision.
