What is it about?
This manuscript investigates factors impacting female representation among cybersecurity professionals in Sri Lanka. Whereas previous studies found certain factors that cause female underrepresentation in the sector, the mechanism of how such factors relate to poor female representation in the cybersecurity industry is unclear. Following a deductive research design and referencing survey data from 75 female professionals working in the cybersecurity sector of Sri Lanka, this study investigates how a combination of multiple factors works as antecedents for women perceived motivation to selecting cybersecurity as a career option. Importantly, going beyond prior works, our findings suggest that a women motivation act as a mediator between her self-efficacy, family influence, the culture surrounding her workplace, and role models she follows with her perception to choose a career in the cybersecurity sector.
