Education as economic stimulus in the human capital century

What is it about?

In this paper I seek to historicise education and capitalism in Australia not by beginning with a kind of foundational moment – or moments, including reforms – in the nineteenth century, but by thinking about why education was so important in what economic historian Claudia Goldin has called the ‘human capital century’.
