What is it about?

applies pragmatist thinking - notably actor network tteory - to trace scenarios for multiple scenarios as practice actors. Indirectly criticises near-complete emphasis on cognition in scenario planning.

Why is it important?

If scenarios are important to socio=technical development(highly probable), it is quite necessary to see their effects in the round - not just on what certain elite persons think, but on how collectivities might act under the influence of scenarios. That is the task we attempt.

Perspectives

This publication is a first attempt, with more coming. We want scenarios (concerning, for instance, US nuclear war planning, or the shape of South African society post-Apartheid) to be assigned their full due. We do not intend our application of pragmatism to displace cognitive approaches, for the war of hearts and minds is clearly of continuing significance. Our approach to pragmatism augments such perspectives and others - adaptive systems applications, for example. A full range comprehension of scenarios will itself need to be boundary-spanning in its own right, though.
