What is it about?

Visual and auditory sensory environmental stimuli in the teaching environment affect individuals on the Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) who suffers from sensory processing problem leading to stereotypical and ritualistic behaviour

Why is it important?

To develop an evidence-based design approach to school buildings reduce and mitigate the impact of sensory environment on Individuals on the ASC and create an enhanced and more therapeutically -enriched and cognitively -affective learning environment attuned to users needs

Perspectives

This study represents a leap forward by providing a comprehensive measuring framework by which some sensory environmental attributes can be assessed objectively and their impacts on individual behaviour can be thoroughly assessed; meanwhile other likely risk of harm can be minimised or mitigated. The findings have pinpointed the key factors which need to be considered to ameliorate the adverse impact on the teaching environment in Special needs Schools in both the UK and the USA.
