Why is it important?
The long term success of any organization depends on the quality of its workforce which provides it with its most basic and central source of competitive advantage. Trainers therfore need to be able to assess an organization's training and development needs in terms of financial performance, organizational strategy and culture.
Perspectives
This paper was drawn from Training for Profit: A Guide to the Integration of Training in an Organization's Success published by McGraw-Hill in 1993 based on empirical research and reflection over many years. For ore than 20 years it has served me well - and continues to do so - in such roles as trainer, consultant, lecturer, researcher, company director and trustee. I have derived particular pleasure from the success of my undergraduate and postgraduate students for whom I designed dedicated programmes in conducting high quality projects, publications, awards and job appoinments.
