What is it about?
This study explores how employers and skilled immigrants view diversity and meritocracy in the workplace. Despite companies saying they value diversity, they often prioritize traits they see as typically 'Canadian' over immigrants' qualifications. This can create barriers for skilled immigrants trying to find good jobs. Employers tend to hire people who fit their idea of what a Canadian worker should be like, rather than recognizing the talents immigrants bring. The study suggests that workplaces need to rethink their hiring practices to be more inclusive. By valuing diversity and recognizing the skills immigrants offer, companies can create fairer and more welcoming workplaces.
