What is it about?

The concept of the home as a sanctuary and a source of stress relief is a deeply embedded cultural notion. However, instances deviating from this expectation prompt a revaluation of its implications. Our recent investigation explores the association between family incivility (FI) and job dissatisfaction (JD), enriching the dialogue within family and work-related research. Utilizing the conservation of resources (CoR) theory, our study probes the potential mediating role of emotional labour (EL) in the dynamic between FI and JD. To ensure robustness and reliability in our findings, we engaged 313 participants through a time-lag sampling technique complemented by systematic random sampling (SRS) to reduce biases in data collection. The analysis revealed a significant link between FI and JD, with EL mediating this relationship. These correlations persisted even when adjusting for variables such as age, gender, and professional experience. Our research offers valuable insights for policymakers, educational bodies, and organizational leaders, aiming to foster environments that mitigate the adverse effects of family incivility on job satisfaction.
