What is it about?

In this research PhD students were asked about issues they have with finding the information needed to finish their studies. They said that the relevant information resides in the community and not so much in the online sources. Based on their information needs, I have proposed different functionalities for an information system that will be designed for this community. The main feature will be based on showing networks that hold data both on social connections between participants in the program (students and faculty) and other relevant information (courses, labs, papers, exams, etc).

Why is it important?

This is a user driven approach to a rather technical issue that brings about interesting insights on what users actually need from the system.

Perspectives

It is important that students are able to help each-other on their path towards the degree, and this research explores the ways to do so.
