What is it about?

It is difficult to do most research these days without using one of more e-tools. The paper outlines principal implications for institutions, particularly universities, in supporting the increasingly complex tools which are used in the data lifecycle.

Why is it important?

While much attention is currently being focused on supporting researchers with their data management requirements, there is a general lack of literature on how to support tools as a critical element in enhancing research outcomes.

Perspectives

A very pragmatic aspect of this article are the suggested issues which institutions should consider in supporting tools used by their researchers. We also look at how librarians can better support researchers in this domain.
