We suggest an evidence based model of effective executive coaching based on our empirical research into executive coaching. This model includes predictors, moderators, proximal and distal outcomes of effective executive coaching.

Why is it important?

Executive coaching as a management developmental intervention strategy seriously needs evidence-based models and research. Unfortunately, there is a “black box” feeling about executive coaching, its activities, the competencies and responsibilities of coaches and the learning outcomes for coachees. This feeling has become a major issue for executive coaching because it is the systematic assessment of interventions that drives scientific and practical progress. It may very well be impossible to maximize the effectiveness of coaching until more stringent standards of practice are developed, based in theory, tested, agreed upon and continually developed.
