The aim of our paper is to uncover and show the roots in Jellinek’s different models of alcohol problems, from the conventional medical one, though the Alcoholics Anonymous-inspired concept, to the species of alcoholism theory.

Walking backwards in Jellinek's footprints is actually a good way to move forward, by revealing his historical, social, scientific and personal “barefoot” truth.
Perspectives
Modern science does not abide by the aphoristic truth of the Latin maxim: “of the dead, nothing unless good”. In a science based on the principle of openness, transparency, accountability and replicability, we should instead say: “of the dead, nothing unless truth”. One of the premises of modern science is its ability to separate the personal life of scientists from their scientific merits. There is no relation between moral integrity and scientific creativity or intellectual restlessness. However, the integrity of the professional qualified to treat people who are ill is of course essential.
