In recent years, slimming cure is imposed to all automotive equipment to help fuel economy. The design methodology presented in the paper aims at optimizing the size of an automotive power inductor.

The task of an optimal design is to reach the product requirements while minimizing the cost. The optimal design of power inductor described in the paper is achieved by association an analytical model, a numerical one and an optimization algorithm.

Perspectives

In near future, optimal design will be mandatory to put new automotive equipment on the market. Actually, equipment need to be lighter, cheaper and more efficient.
