What is it about?

Тhis paper presents the determination of the maximum power point in photovoltaic system using two different cell models for bifacial photovoltaic module. The optimal power point is determined by using Genetic Algorithm, as an optimization tool. The proposed algorithm is a nature-based algorithm that uses genetic operators such as reproduction, crossover and mutation to realise the search through the investigated area of solutions. Based on the input electrical data for the analysed bifacial photovoltaic module, as well as the mathematical model of the two photovoltaic (PV) cell presentations, the algorithm can estimate the values for the current and the voltage at maximum power point for a given solar irradiation and working temperature. The analysis is performed for many different irradiations, but in this work the results are presented for irradiations of: 200, 600 and 1000 W/m2 on the front side and appropriate irradiation on the rear side. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is given for the two cell models: simplified model and a two-diode model of a photovoltaic cell.
