What is it about?

Projects usually suffer from schedule delays and cost overruns. One of the major problems causing that is the inefficient management of material flow processes. It is required that construction materials are delivered at the right time with the right quantity to the site, but unfortunately, this is not easy to achieve. BIM and RFID technologies have been extensively used to improve material flow processes, however, it remains challenging that they are not sufficient to support reliable decision making on material deliveries. To overcome the challenges, we propose a new perspective on the use of advanced technologies - integrating lean principles with data-driven processes. We incorporate the look-ahead plans in a BIM-RFID based workflow to increase the temporal granularity in planning and control. The implementation of the workflow shows further improvements in data transparency and reliability of decision making over the entire material flow processes.
