What is it about?
This is a study of emerging market self initiated expatriate (SIE) professionals. SIEs from India perceived greater subjective benefits (financial independence and social status) with US careers than with careers in India. This was particularly true of improved social status for female SIEs based in the US. India based females perceived their opportunity for financial success at a significantly lower level compared to their male counterparts. Their perceived status in Indian organizations was even lower.
